New office for Finnish outfit

Angry Birds developer Rovio opening London studio

Angry Birds developer Rovio is opening a new development studio in London.

The news was announced at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2017, where Rovio VP of Product Mark Sorrell revealed that the studio would be working on new massively multiplayer games.

He added that, at least initially, the London office would not be working on an Angry Birds title.

Talent hub

Sorrell said Rovio identified the UK as a place to expand the company due to the breadth of talent in the country, particularly the capital.

In Finland, the company currently employs 10% of the total Finnish games industry, making expansion a key part of Rovio's plan to employ new talent.

Combined with Finnish knowhow in the mobile games industry, Sorrell has high hopes for the new development studio.
