In recent years, Tesco has grown to absorb every retail sector, including news, entertainment, greengrocery, confectionery, butchery, estate agency, education, fishmongery, and the age-old profession of petrolmongery. Well now, the retail giant which Armando Iannucci once predicted will one day invade Denmark is set to enter the digital distribution-mongery business as well.
In a move that places Tesco in direct competition with Apple and its iTunes service, the company will launch Tesco Digital next month, offering music, television shows, and games for download.
No details have emerged thus far on what devices these games will be for, but marketing site Brand Republic claims that "by the end of the year, it will be compatible with iPods..." Being realists, we'll assume for now that this compatibility is limited to music, with games being for PC and mobile phone.
Whether you'll be able to gain points is thus far unclear.
