Dutch mobile developer OrangePixel has announced plans to create ten games aimed at 6-14 year-old children, to be distributed by German firm Softgames.
The deal follows on from the two companies' existing partnership, and will involve several different brands and game genres, with the ten games due to be released over the coming months.
"We are just finishing up the last few games of our original agreement with Softgames, and I believe both parties have been pretty pleased with the results." says OrangePixel CEO Pascal Bestebroer.
"The agreements allowed us to try some new game styles and has also widened our expertise in the area of mobile games and different target audiences."
Kids and mobile games is an awkward area in some countries, though. Many children have mobile handsets, and would be an ideal audience for games.
However, some markets (the UK, for example) have strict rules about not promoting mobile phones to children, meaning operators would likely shun games aimed specifically at this age group.
Meanwhile, even when you can sell games to kids, there's the thorny issue of how much to charge for them, given that most will be on pay-as-you-go phones often with less than the usual price of a game in credit.
In the case of this Softgames/OrangePixel deal, though, the games are for a kids' TV brand, so they won't face the promotional problems.
