RIM has announced that it is extending the deadline for its Built for BlackBerry program, giving developers until 18 February to apply for the designation free of charge.
All apps submitted to the program will undergo an "added level of evaluation" in which they will be tested against RIM's "high standards for quality and performance."
If the app is successful, it will be awarded the Built for BlackBerry designation a badge that RIM believes will help quality apps stand out on its BlackBerry World store.
High profile
RIM claims that Built for BlackBerry apps may also benefit from an enhanced profile in the company's social media and marketing campaigns, too.
Applying for the designation is a simple process. Once a developer has an app approved for sale on BlackBerry World, they can apply for the Built for BlackBerry program from their vendor account.
Once the vendor has read and agreed to the program's terms and conditions, their app will be submitted for evaluation.
The temptations
With BlackBerry 10's launch just weeks away, RIM is redoubling its efforts to tempt app developers across to its ecosystem.
The company recently held an incentivised 'port-a-thon' that saw more than 15,000 apps submitted for BlackBerry 10 in less than two days, for instance.
And there's also the 10k Developer Challenge an incentive program that's open exclusively to the creators of apps with the Built for BlackBerry designation.
The Challenge guarantees developers $10,000 revenue in their first year on BlackBerry World so long as their Built for BlackBerry app earns at least $1,000 from sales within that period.
