Cross-platform framework developer Marmalade has released a new rapid application development tool it's calling Marmalade Quick.
Designed to enable the speedy creation of 2D games and applications, Marmalade Quick is built on existing open source components such as Cocos2d-x and Box2D, and makes use of the Lua scripting language.
Marmalade's in-house development team, Marmalade Studio, will release the first game developed exclusively using Quick in early 2013, when Signal to the Stars will launch across a range of platforms.

"Marmalade has always powered some of the slickest 2D games and apps out there, but in the past has mainly been used by C++ developers," explained Marmalade CTO Tim Closs in a statement.
"With Marmalade Quick, we're excited to be bringing our powerful cross-platform toolset to an even wider range of developers.
"Marmalade aims to give developers the choice to produce however they want to, so adding Lua to our existing support for C++ and HTML5 adds even more flexibility to our toolset," Closs concluded.
The core of the Quick is available from a dedicated GitHub page under the name OpenQuick, and operates entirely independently from the Marmalade SDK.
Alternatively, Marmalade Quick is included free of charge with all Marmalade licenses, allowing developers to easily export their creations to the full range of Marmalade-supported platforms.
