Reports are trickling in that the next Android firmware officially designated Android 1.6 but more lovingly referred to as 'Donut' (all Android updates so far have been named after sweet, yummy snacks) is now finding its way to peoples phones thanks to the wonder of OTA (Over The Air) technology.
According to TmoNews it looks like a select few lucky North American G1 owners are getting to dine on Donut, with T-Mobile choosing to only update a few phones as a test to ensure that the new software doesnt turn handsets into expensive bricks.
However, reports suggest that the mobile phone operator is intending to roll out the update across all of its branded Android phones over the next few weeks. We assume that UK-based users will be getting similar treatment around the same time.
Of course, if you own an Android device that hasnt been purchased via T-Mobile then youll have to wait for the rather less glamorous option of installing the update manually.
Donut is mainly focused on providing a massively improved Marketplace experience, with a better layout, superior navigation and (finally) screenshots to illustrate what each app looks like. It will also come with enhanced support for OpenGL ES 1.1, which should mean well start to see more 3D games.
No doubt youre already staring at your Android phone in expectation of the OTA update arriving, but in the meantime heres some footage of that delicious Donut in action. Enjoy, this one's not fattening:

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
