Mobile games publisher I-play has stated its intention to get behind Android, revealing it will be releasing 20 titles for the platform during 2010.
According to a report on mocoNews, I-play's global VP of sales and marketing Keith Adair says Android has a distinct advantage over its rivals because Android Market isn't the only portal publishers can use to sell their apps.
Operators are increasingly serving up their own stores, giving studios more than one channel to sell their wares through.
"We see a big opportunity on the carrier side. I don't believe that the Google Marketplace will be the only interestiing channel for Android content," Adair said.
New direction for 2010
I-play's Android move follows uncertainty at the company, after a reorganisation in late 2009, which also saw former COO Don Ryan left the company to form his own start-up.
The firm commented that the move formed a part of a larger restructuring exercise for the company as a whole, and that it had secured "large new investments" for future growth.
Franchises such as Fast & Furious, Deal or No Deal and Bubble Town will now hit Android in the coming months, though downloads of the publisher's existing Android titles such as Sexy Pillowfight and an existing Deal or No Deal release have reportedly suffered slow sales, hovering between 500 and 5,000 downloads respectively.
However, it's Adair's belief that the number of new Android devices, combined with increased carrier involvement, will greatly expand Android's commercial potential.
