Facebook social games publisher Zynga has already released several iPhone games so even if the announcement it's bringing Farmville to the App Store wasn't a surprise, it's expected to herald the company taking Apple's 100 million devices much more seriously.
Of course, the question of whether this will grow the game's already 82 million active users substantially remains to be seen.
Perhaps what will be more significant is if Zynga comes up with a coherent technology platform that enables it to quickly rollout out iOS support for more of its games.
At the moment however, it seems that the fast growing company is operating on a more adhoc manner with mobile development being handled on a per game basis via the mobile group at its San Francisco HQ.
It's a situation that seems likely to change, at least in terms of scale, with the acquisition-hungry outfit already casting its eye around for suitable targets to bulk up its iOS capabilities, both in the US and Europe.
PocketGamer.biz is also lead to believe Zynga will be announcing technology partnerships in the near future.
In other words, watch this space.
