Making the most of reach and opportunity

Java specialist mig33 pre-installs games on devices from 12 Indian and Indonesian OEMs
As developers working in the sector will attest, there's still money to be made from Java games in emerging markets.

Case in point: Singapore social mobile outfit mig33 has just signed off a series of deals that will see its library of Java and Android games pre-installed on handsets from 12 different manufacturers across India and Indonesia.

Strength in numbers

Though individually each OEM is technically a small player, amassed together they boast a sizeable userbase - one the mig33 is looking to exploit.

Manufacturers wrapped up in the deal include Skybee, TiPhone, Lexus Mobile, HT Mobile, Ktouch, SPC, Polytron and MOVI in Indonesia and Lemon Mobile, Beetel, Swingtel, Zen Mobile and Olive Telecom in India.

"Today's news is all about reach and opportunity," said CEO Steven Goh.

"The next wave of mig33’s growth will come from the relationships we're forging with Asian handset brands and, to an even greater extent, with the firms that develop the handset architecture.

"Just as mig33 went from zero to 50+ million members based primarily on our J2ME app, we expect to see exponential growth based on this emerging position as a 'must have' app for Android users all across emerging markets."

Mig33 also has a deal with GREE, which sees the latter's games integrated to mig33's network.
