Continuing the brain drain from console to mobile development comes Liverpool start up Playrise Digital.
Helmed by ex-Sony Liverpool designer Nick Burcombe, the co-creator of Wipeout, it's raised its first undisclosed funding round from Simon Turton.
The ex-Index Ventures and Warburg Pincus executive has also joined the company.
Good to go
"Finding the money was not easy but now we have the funds to develop our first games, reach profitability and build a sustainable business," said CEO Burcombe.
Working on iOS and Android devices, Playrise's initial games - Table Top Racing and Hungry Baby? Happy Baby! - will be released later in 2012.
"Mobile device users are hungry for higher quality games and Nick, and his team, have the experience and skills developing leading console games to deliver a new generation of games for mobile platforms," commented Turton.
"The games that they have under development for launch this year are innovative, fun and visually-stunning."
