Marmalade has announced that the latest version its cross-platform development framework will, for the first time, enable mobile devs to port their apps across to Windows and Mac.
Currently in beta, the firm claims the new version of the SDK - version 6.1 -will make it easier for mobile developers to target desktop platforms, including Steam, Gamersgate and the Mac App Store.
Launch everywhere
To showcase these new features, Marmalade has partnered with UK outfit HotGen, which has used SDK 6.1 to bring three of its mobile titles to Windows and Mac OS X.
"The ability to seamlessly port our content to the widest possible range of platforms is vital, as is having access to open platform support and a flexible toolset," explained HotGen MD Terry Haynes.
"The iOS and Android games we built with Marmalade have seen great success, and we're thrilled now to be able to bring these to Windows and Mac."
River in reverse
Furthermore, developers of desktop games can use the SDK to launch on mobile platforms.
As Nomad Games' programming director Mat Draper explained, "having never previously targeted mobile platforms, we had demos up and running within days."
"Marmalade lets us leverage our resources really efficiently in a small team. As seasoned C++ programmers we could start coding immediately and make the most of our experience."
