As Com2uS ramps up global activity to support its $1 billion franchise Summoners War, it’s expanding its European operations with help from fellow South Korean publisher Gamevil.
The result is Gamevil Europe has become a joint venture with Com2uS, and is now known as Gamevil Com2uS Europe.
Of course, Gamevil and Com2uS’ relationship goes well beyond their nationality, with Gamevil acquiring a controlling stake in Com2uS back in 2013.
Despite that both companies have maintained a separate stock market listing in Seoul and this move in Europe, which is matched by a joint venture company to handle activity in Southeast Asia, isn’t expected to result in any wider changes to the companies' corporate relationship in Korea.
Better together
“We’ve provided local services such as marketing and community management for Com2uS for some time,” said David Mohr, who set up and ran Gamevil Europe as its GM, and now runs the combined entity.
“Globally, the two companies will continue to find synergies where they make sense, but both companies are doing well individually, and each wants to protect its creative spirit.”
In Europe, Summoners War will continue to provide a key focus, with the company’s Berlin office running community support for the game across languages ranging from French, German and Italian to Russian, Turkish and Arabic.
