Tel Aviv-based mobile games developer Plarium has launched its movie tie-in game Terminator Genisys: Future War almost a year after it was first announced.
The game itself is a clan-based strategy MMO with a focus on PvP combat, with players either siding with the humans or evil AI Skynet. It uses characters and designs from the Terminator Genisys universe, along with Arnold Schwarzenegger's likeness.
The Terminator Genisys film failed to break even at the box office when it was released, leading to its two planned sequels being canned. A new film, designed to reboot the Terminator franchise, is reportedly in development.
Natural decision
"Pairing the Terminator Genisys universe with Plarium's advanced strategy gameplay was one of the most natural creative decisions we've made because the franchise aligns so well with our core game mechanics," said Gabi Shalel, CMO of Plarium.
"From the epic scale of the game to the diverse weaponry, futuristic technology and ability to play as 'good' or 'evil', this is the experience Terminator fans have always wanted."
Terminator Genisys: Future War was first revealed back in June 2016 with an "early 2017" release date. Between its announcement and release, Plarium has also launched its own IP Throne: Kingdom at War and licensed match-3 title Rio: Match 3 Party.
