PG Connects Advent Day Four: Indie Strategies track powered by Hello Games, Curve, Tricky Tribe, White Wolf, Imperia Online and chums

The indie apocalypse is done. Indie survival has been overcome. What's next for the 'little' guys looking to go big?

PG Connects Advent Day Four: Indie Strategies track powered by Hello Games, Curve, Tricky Tribe, White Wolf, Imperia Online and chums

We're running a 'PGC London 2018 Advent Calendar' throughout December. Every day, an informative conference-related update full of wonder.

Some will tell you that 2018 will be the 'year of growing up' for indies.

Not in a condescending way, incidentally. Rather that the acceptance that indie development isn't exclusively polarised into the 'work-for-hire' or 'oh, it's art, darling' camps brings with it a realisation that this is a 'proper job'. And therefore how you strategise around it and plan your approach makes a critical difference.

That's the foundation on which Indie Strategies track at PG Connects London (January 22nd to 23rd) has been built. Once again under the inimitable guidance of Unity evangelist Oscar Clark, we'll be looking at:

  • Concept development – working an idea through to successful realisation, prototyping approaches
  • Executive production – market feasibility, tech feasibility, resource planning, future outlook
  • Game development – how different teams' philosophies impact the process
  • Company culture – building a culture around studio identity, brand building
  • Investment strategy – are the current financing models working?
  • Moving on – how to get past that first success/failure, thinking 'beyond the moment'

We could bullet point all day, but it essentially boils down to knowing the right thing to make, having the right team to make it, understanding how to deliver it and planning accordingly throughout the process.

And sharing their key insight on all this is a group of mighty minds, the first 'reveal' of which includes:

  • Marcus Pullen, Blue Donut Studios
  • Laurens Rutten, CoolGames
  • Alex Moyet, Curve Digital
  • Jack Burfield, Fat Fish Games
  • Innes McKendrick, Hello Games
  • Cvetan Rusimov, Imperia Online
  • Derk de Geus, Paladin Studios
  • Thomas Forss, stageZero
  • Martine Spaans, Tamalaki
  • Leonard Tatum, Tatum Games
  • Mariusz Szypura, Telehorse
  • Primoz Strajnar, Tricky Tribe
  • Dhaunae De Vir, White Wolf

A full track shedule will be unveiled later this month but for today this is your lot. More tomorrow as we count down to Europe's largest dedicated mobile games industry event – plenty of PGC London sheduled content to go through (and we've not even touched associate conferences XR Connects and PC Connects taking place alongside PGC – one ticket, three events).

Want to join us? PG Connects London 2018 Mid Term tickets are still live.

With three boys under the age of 12, former Edge editor Joao has given up his dream of making it to F1 and instead spends his weekends transforming his living room floor into a venue for hosting increasingly complex Scalextric tracks. When in work mode, he looks after the production (aka the behind-the-scenes magic) of Steel Media's series of conferences.
