Level-5 acquires Keiji Inafune's studio Comcept

Japanese developer Level-5 has acquired Keiji Inafune's studio Comcept for an undisclosed sum.

As reported by Gematsu, the new subsidiary will be called Level-5 Comcept. Though it will be staff by the studio's existing employees, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino will also have input on the studio's operations.

The two developers had previously collaborated on 3DS game Guild 02 back in 2013.

A whole new Comcept

Comcept will continue to develop its own games, rather than work exclusively on Level-5 products. It currently has 15 employees but is looking to recruit and expand, with the eventual goal of becoming Level-5's Osaka division in the future.

The studio's first game as part of Level-5 will be PvP strategy title Dragon Colonies, which is expected to launch in Japan on mobile in 2018.

Level-5 most recently brought its casual mobile game Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble to Europe and Russia after achieving 10 million downloads elsewhere in the world. It was first launched in October 2015 in Japan, before being pushed out to the United States, Canada and Australia.
