Even before games portal Kongregate's buyout by American retail giant GameStop, it was gunning for Android; the site launching web-based Flash games on Android in May.
Now Kongregate is to launch a dedicated Android app designed to push a library of more than 300 free Flash games directly at the platform's userbase.
Arcade attack
Dubbed Kongregate Arcade, the app is set to gain significant promotion within GameStop's 4,600 US based outlets, with the company claiming it could act as a catalyst in the efforts to "jumpstart Android as a viable gaming platform".
"In creating the Kongregate Arcade, we wanted to solve the game discovery problem that all Android owners have shared," said Kongregate CEO Jim Greer.
"It was important to reinforce our mission to provide gamers with great free games anytime, anywhere, and to broaden the reach of the Kongregate community across multiple platforms.
"The arrival of Kongregate Arcade is the perfect next step in that strategy."
Reaching outGreer has previously touted Android as the perfect platform for open and fair games development, with iOS in comparison weighed down by the heavy hand of Apple.
"We are not big on the iPhone. Apple wants to control its own platform. We are betting heavily on Android because it's more open and they are working on providing a great experience," Greer said in July.
Kongregate claims new titles will be added to the app every week some also available to download for offline play - with the firm also actively looking to engage further studios to create games exclusively for the platform.
