We've been following the Samsung Application Store Developer Challenge 2009 very closely, which put aside a massive $330,000 in prizes for developers who create software for the Korean manufacturer's handsets and its on-device app portal.
The winners have just been announced, with the first augmented reality application for Windows Mobile, Ompass - World Cities, taking the Platinum Award. The app is built specifically for the Samsung Omnia II, and uses its digital compass to provide information on direction, distance and places of interest through an augmented reality interface.
The two Gold prizes went to the mobile Wikipedia app Mobipedia and card game Blackjack Masters. The five Silver and ten Bronze winners will be available to download for free (along with the other winning entries) until April 2010, so head on over to the Samsung Application Store Developer Challenge website for more information.
Congratulations all round!
