Samsung's belief that it'll sell more than 1 million Galaxy Tabs before the end of 2010 might seem a little ambitious.
However, a quick look at the state of the competition reveals one startling fact: aside from iPad, there isn't any.
2011 is likely to see the floodgates open in terms of Android powered tablets, but for the moment, Samsung's Galaxy Tab is the one iPad alternative eager retailers have to shift in the run up to Christmas.
Surging Samsung
It's reason enough for Samsung mobile head JK Shin to be rather bullish regarding its fortunes.
"Consumer responses in Europe and Asia have been quite good, and we are confident of meeting one million sales mark this year," Shin reportedly said at the Tab's launch in Korea.
Such momentum is likely to see Galaxy Tab pick up notable momentum the following year, in Samsung's view.
Competition within the Android space will, almost certainly, pick up in 2011 LG one player that has, accidentally or not, revealed its intentions to enter the market next year but Samsung still believes total sales will top 10 million units worldwide before the year is out.
Galaxy Tab has some way to go before it can hope to challenge iPad at the top of the tree, however. Recent estimates from one analyst suggest Apple could be planning to manufacture up to 48 million units in 2011.
