Almost unnoticed given the focus on Apple's Q1 2011 financials, but, thanks to the firm's legal action against Samsung, we now have a handle on cumulative iPhone and iPod touch sales.
Detailed by Thisismynext.com, an analysis of Apple's legal challenge reveals that, to date, Apple has sold 108 million iPhones across the globe, and 60 million iPod touches.
Million matters
Combined with the 19.5 million iPads sold to date (the only previously publicly available figure), this brings total iOS sales to 187.5 million just 1.5 million short of the official number Apple published with its financial results, suggesting the iPhone and iPod touch totals are recent.
It's the first time in many years Apple has intentionally or not detailed iPod touch sales figures, which suggest the portable media player accounts for around a third of the total iOS userbase.
Though Samsung's Galaxy Player threatens to serve up the first real competition for iPod touch, as things stand, Apple essentially has a 100 percent share of what remains an untapped market by its rivals.
It appears to be a lucrative one, too, with many reports having previously suggested that iPod touch owners download more apps than those with iPhones or iPads.
