Its taken a while but tablet-orientated OS Android 3.1 Honeycomb finally has an HTC tablet to run on in the form of the HTC Jetstream, which it has been announced will land on American shores on September 4.
Jetstream will be HTCs first 10.1-inch tablet, though also of note is the fact that it will be an exclusive for AT&T customers and not for cheap either.
The price is right?
With the ailing HP Touchpad soon to be hitting a new low price of $99 and whispers of Amazons first tablet soon to be arriving sub-$300, Jetstreams starting price of $699.99 (£429) for a two year contract looks likely to be priced much too high.
Additionally, data plans come in the form of $14.99 for 250MB, $25 for 2GB or $35 for 3GB.
For $100 less, consumers can snap up Apples iPad 2.
However, HTC is offering plenty of highlights to its latest device, including HTC Scribe, a digital pen accessory, as a no-additional-cost bonus for early adopters.
Spec-tacle
In terms of size youll be handling a 7-inch long, 9.87 inches wide and .51 inches deep tablet with a weight of 25 ounces.
Jetstream will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor and boasts 1080p playback and capture, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing and 8-megapixel rear-facing camera . Theres HTC Sense UX for tablets, a handy microSD card slot and a considerable 7,300 mAh battery.
"This tablet is a beautiful 10.1-inch, LTE powered masterpiece," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.
"When you combine powerful options like HTC Jetstream with our upcoming LTE technology and nationwide HSPA+ network, it flies."
Engaging Europe?
"HTC Jetstream combines the acclaimed HTC Sense experience with Android Honeycomb to provide an innovative and engaging experience on a 10.1 inch tablet," said Martin Fichter, acting president, HTC Americas Region.
"Paired with AT&Ts upcoming 4G LTE speed and mobility, HTC Jetstream delivers connectivity for social and entertainment needs alongside productivity and creativity tools in a portable package."
There has not been any official word relating to a European release as yet, although those who like tablets but don't like iPads will have the option of Sonys latest two tablets, which are launching in Europe first.
