Facing increased competition from chip rivals such as Nvidia and others, Qualcomm has announced at a trade event in Istanbul that it will be looking to release 2.5GHz Snapdragon processors during 2012 in single-, double-, and quad-core configurations.
The processor (called the Snapdragon S4 class) will use 28nm parts, sit alongside an Adreno GPU - also available in up to quad-core configuration - and have a 3G / LTE multimode.
The S4 class chips are expected to enter manufacturing in early 2012, so its likely well see the first phones to use the processors at the Mobile World Congress in Feburary.
Yesterday, Qualcomm announced it was the only company to currently offer chips that could run Windows Phone and Windows 8 OSes.
