Microsoft has announced that the winner of its Windows Phone Next App Star developer contest will be featured in a primetime US TV advertisement for Windows Phone 8.
The global contest invites developers to submit Windows Phone 8 games and apps for consideration.
From these entrants, Microsoft will select 32 paid titles and 32 free titles which will face off in a head-to-head, tournament style competition.
Marketplace matters
Each of the 64 challengers will receive a Lumia 920, a free one year Dev Center subscription and featured promotion in the Windows Phone Store.
The grand prize winner decided by several weeks of consumer voting will receive these prizes as well as a place in a primetime TV ad for Windows Phone 8.
It's all part of Microsoft's continued effort to court developer support for the Windows Phone Store, which - as PocketGamer.biz revealed last week - is now growing at a faster rate than Google Play at the same point in its life.
The deets
The contest is open to developers worldwide (barring a few territories such as Iran and Cuba), and the deadline for submissions is 5 March 2013.
By this time, an app must be published and available for Windows Phone 8 users to be entered for consideration.
At this point, Microsoft will assess the entries, and select the best 64 based on a 50:50 mixture of personal discretion and Store ratings.
The public voting period will then stretch from 19 March to 8 April, when an overall winner will be decided.
The relevant entry forms can be found on Windows Phone developer website, along with a full description of the contest's terms and conditions.
