When you bring a new product to the market, it's best to launch strong to secure consumer interest.
And BlueStacks' GamePop unconsoleis coming out swinging with a new announcement that it will support iOS games on its previously Android-focused hardware.
It manages this feat by way of a new technology called "Looking Glass" - which is a virtualisation service similar to what BlueStacks uses to bring Android titles to Windows 8, PC, and Mac platforms.
All of the virtualised iOS titles will be included in the $6.99/month subscription fee which is the defining business model of the GamePop.
A little Apple in your living room
Subatomic Studios, the developer behind the successful Fieldrunners franchise has signed on to be the featured iOS partner on GamePop.
And while no other developers were mentioned specifically in the announcement, BlueStacks CTO Suman Saraf wasn't shy about dropping names when talking about the potential for the virtualisation technology.
"There will always be popular titles that are iOS-only, like Clash of Clans... Looking Glass enables these titles to be brought into the living room," he said.
Indeed, the company uses the game prominently in its artwork, although it's not clear whether they have permission from developer Supercell.
And more to the point, it seems extremely unlikely that Apple won't make some sort of legal case to ban the technology that has the potential to undermine its entire business model.
