Apple has extended its successful distribution channel from iPhone and iPad to computers running the Mac OS X Snow Leopard, with the launch of the Mac App Store.
Just like those existing app stores, developers can sell their wares on a 70:30 revenue split with Apple.
According to analytics outfit Distimo, the Mac App Store currently contains 1,604 apps, of which around 17 percent are games.
Old iOS favourites such as Chopper 2, Bejeweled 3, Flight Control HD, Osmos and The Incident are available, and Angry Birds is firmly in the #1 spot.
Yet as can be seen from the graph below, games are currently less dominant as a category on this store than on the iPhone and iPad stores.
Productivity apps and utilities are relatively much larger categories on the Mac App Store. It also features new categories such as developer tools, graphics & design and video.
