Having watched as sales of the original Galaxy S passed the 10 million mark in the run up to Christmas 2011, it's understandable Samsung would be bullish regarding the fortunes of its successor.
The Korean giant has previously stated it intends sell a 10 million Galaxy S II handsets across the course of 2011, and news that pre-order across Europe and Asia have already topped 3 million suggests it's a goal well within the firm's reach.
Supply and demand
"There are quite a few demands in some countries to ask for preferred orders for the supply of Galaxy S II," the company said in a statement responding to the pre-orders.
"We will do our utmost best to ensure that all the global demands should be met as quickly as possible."
Though Samsung hasn't broken down the numbers between the two regions, it's believed the figure relates to pre-orders made before the end of April.
Around 200,000 of those were taken in South Korea, the company revealed at the start of May, with 10,000 pre-orders placed within the first 29 minutes of availabiltity.
Such strong early demand means commentators are already predicting that the handset will suffer from shortages, owing much to the previous supply problems the company suffered with the device's 4.27-inch Super AMOLED screen.
Samsung plans to roll Galaxy II out in more than 120 countries.
