iPhone excepted, we don't usually go overboard on coverage of firmware updates for mobile handsets, but the one Nokia's just announced for its 5800 XpressMusic is intriguing.
It promises a better user interface, faster internet access, a built-in dictionary, better search and the ability to take still photos from the front-facing secondary camera. Which is all nice.
But the interesting thing is the addition of a feature called Application Update. It automatically finds updates to apps installed on the 5800, then downloads and installs them.
Such updates are standard practice on iPhone, of course, so we're assuming Nokia's Application Update will also be a core part of its Ovi Store when it launches in May.
5800 users appear to be getting an early glimpse.
