Hollywood studios have traditionally zig-zagged between licensing their movies to mobile games publishers for big bucks and going it alone with in-house publishing.
Sony Pictures is currently zagging with the latter strategy, and has announced eight new games due to be released by the end of this year, while stressing that other as-yet unannounced titles may join the line-up.
They include games based on upcoming blockbusters Angels & Demons, Zombieland and 2012: The Mobile Game.
However, Sony is also on a retro tip, releasing Q*Bert for iPhone and Android, Ghostbusters for iPhone, and a mobile game based on 1980s TV show Voltron.
Sony has also snapped up the rights to the Sports Illustrated brand, releasing a mobile trivia game that rewards players with photos of the famous swimsuit models.
But perhaps the most interesting title is Top Agent, a massively multiplayer iPhone game based on the James Bond franchise, which will see players battling henchmen, villains and each other.
Here's hoping it fares better technically than the recent Watchmen MMO on iPhone, whose servers struggled to cope with demand following its launch.
