Following the news that iPod touch ad requests overtook iPhone on December 26, mobile advertising platform AdMob has turned its attention to the performance of Android.
And it appear all the signs are positive.
During December, AdMob, which tracks handset and operator data from every ad request in its advertising network of more than 15,000 mobile web sites and applications, registered more than a billion requests from Android devices.
This was an increase of 97 percent compared to October.
Another point of interest is the growing diversification of Android-powered devices. Seven devices generated more than three percent of requests in December, up from only three in October, before the Motorola Droid was released.
Of course, the Droid is now the most used phone, accounting for 30 percent of requests. HTC is still the most popular manufacturer of Android devices at 56 percent, although that's down from 98 percent in October.
Finally, the US is the pre-dominant location, accounting for 90 percent of traffic.
