Given the sheer amount of games and apps that use Facebook Connect to link up with the social network, it's perhaps not all too surprising that rival MySpace has come up with something similar.
As reported by mocoNews, MySpace will soon release a free-to-use SDK that will allow thirdparties to integrate elements of the social network into their apps.
Android will be the first OS to benefit from the development kit, with iPhone developers set to join the party two weeks later.
In the loop
This move to support general apps follows on from MySpace's link up with Scoreloop for gaming, which was announced during GDC 2010.
As explained at the time by Scoreloop CEO Marc Gumpinger, the deal saw Scoreloop offering its SDK to developers signed up to MySpace's gaming portal.
"We're the official partner for MySpace for everything involving mobile gaming," offered Gumpinger.
"We're already seeing a number of developers coming to us. It's pretty interesting because it fits into our strategy of helping developers. We have a dedicated team to help on integration and they are already working with developers in terms of MySpace games integration."
Mobile MySpace
MySpace has enjoyed success in the mobile arena of late, despite being largely overshadowed by the likes of Facebook and Twitter in the wider market.
The social network's Android app remains one of the top 10 most popular apps on the OS, with unique users having jumped 230 percent year-on-year.
