We're all familiar with award ceremonies that celebrate the games that have surged up up the sales charts, but those promoting titles that are yet to hit the digital shelves are rarer.
As such, the launch of Game Connection Europe's new Selected Projects competition, which is designed to cast light on the games yet to be tapped up by publishers, could make all the difference for some studios.
The organisers behind the 10th Game Connection Europe - due to roll into Lyon in France on November 15 - now invite developers to submit their unsigned games for nomination.
The studios behind the top 20 selected titles will be asked to present their games on the event's opening day in front of an audience of publishers and distributors looking to sign the next big thing.
Entries are split into three categories: web-based/social, home console and handheld, and the submission deadline is October 13.
Talent spotting
"Over the past 10 years, Game Connection Europe has grown into a widely respected and popular event attended by game developers from around the world," said the conference's MD, Pierre Carde.
"Our 20 selected projects contest is a great way for developers to bring their unfinished titles in front of major decision makers and maybe get a publishing or distribution contract.
"I know this industry has been scared to show the unsigned, but this paranoia must come to an end, and we wish to participate in that."
In order to find the top 20, nominated titles will be reviewed for innovation, creativity, concept, design, gameplay and financial viability by an unnamed panel.
Developers looking to enter are advised to register their game's on Game Connection's website.
