As was the case with Windows Phone 7, the minimum specs for devices running Intel and Nokia's mobile computing OS MeeGo have been revealed, the idea being to set a benchmark no handsets can fall below.
According to MyNokiaBlog.org - reporting from the last days of MeeGo Conference 2010 in Dublin - devices running the v1.2 OS release will need to offer a minimum of 512MB of RAM and come equipped with a 600MHz CPU.
RAM wars
It's a set up that in some respects puts it ahead of the competition Windows Phone 7, for instance, has a minimum RAM requirement of 256MB but leaves it trailing in others, with Microsoft having insisted on OEMs using 1GHz CPUs.
Of more concern is the apparent lackadaisical approach MeeGo is taking to the platform's aspect ratio and resolution.
The blog claims no set requirements have been named for either as yet, meaning developers will be working in the dark when attempting to code their apps to fit on what will be a wealth of different handset screens.
Nevertheless, with MeeGo 1.1 having been unveiled earlier in the conference, MeeGo 1.2 is said to be on track for a release to developers in April 2011, version 1.3 following on in October.
