The rise and rise of location-based check-in service Foursquare was detailed on PG.Biz last November, its userbase surpassing 4.5 million almost listed as an adjunct to its ambitious expansion plans.
A new office in San Francisco was opened by the social networking behemoth to house a dedicated team of engineers, tasked with handling the growing number of flashmob sign-ins.
Snappy updates
To celebrate attracting 5 million customers, the company introduced an oft-requested feature to its official iPhone and Android apps in the run up to Christmas, allowing visitors to an affiliated venue to post photos and comments alongside their status updates.
Members of the Foursquare community havent been shy in seizing this opportunity, with the New York firm delightedly tweeting, Wow! We blew past a million photos this weekend! According to old saying, that's worth way over a billion words
Examining the area
In further Foursquare maths news, a recent deal agreed between the reigning Mayor of Check-In and Examiner.com will provide regular users of the former with localised reviews and info from the latters network of 68,000 contributors.
Using Examiner.coms geo-targeting technology, news of events, gig, and book signings taking place in the vicinity will be piped to Foursquare punters upon registering their presence.
Which may explain the sudden mass exodus to a nearby concert hall the next time youre out dining...
