Pitched as part of the celebration of Google's purchase of the network a year ago, AdMob has announced it is to roll out a number of new rich media ad units aimed at tablets.
The move is a response to a 300 percent rise in tablet traffic during the last six months, with AdMob claiming the new units will take full advantage of the hardware at hand.
Ads on the up
"To help advertisers better connect with tablet users, today we're launching a variety of new, tablet-specific rich media ad formats," said Clay Bavor, product management director of mobile display ads.
"These new HTML5-based ad formats are built specifically for tablets' larger, high-definition screens, and make use of features like touch, tap and swipe.
"Together, these features will enable advertisers to develop rich, engaging campaigns and run them across multiple mobile platforms."
Refresh and revive
The new tablet ad units will be coupled with a general refresh of AdMob's set up.
Deeper integration with Google's other advertising products is on the radar DoubleClick rich media ads now available on AdMob's network and what's dubbed as a "mediation" feature that selects the best ad from competing ad networks will also follow on.
