Following on from yesterday's news that iOS hotel sim VegasTowers had done over a million downloads, we got more details from developer Kathy Fung.
The IAP conversion rate for the game, which has 50,000 daily active players, is around 3 percent.
This compares favourably with Tiny Tower's conversion rate of 3.8 percent.
"Looking at the subset of players with Facebook demographic information, our average player is over 20 years old with 50/50 male to female ratio," Fung reveals.
"Because of the way our events system is designed, we have a high retention rate with players coming back to the game throughout the day to put out fires or to collect income."
Same but different
As for direct comparisons to Tiny Tower, Fung says the two games are subtly different in terms of gameplay.
"I think Tiny Tower is an incredibly well polished take on the tower building concept, but it ... caters more to the casual audience and is more of an inventory management game, whereas VegasTowers is a building and simulation game." she says.
For example, in VegasTowers, you have control over a much wider range of units, and their placement directly affects hotel revenue and your ranking against other players. Individual people in the tower (ie Bitizens) aren't part of the gameplay either.
"Because of our deep simulation and strategy mechanics, we tend to attract older players who invest heavily into the game," Fung says.
"I think that's why our average player spend - $40 - is so high."
