Another week, and another case of Samsung and Apple getting further embroiled in their ongoing global legal tussle.
Following on from product bans in Australia and an injunction forcing software alterations upon three devices in the Netherlands, Samsung is now attempting to hit back against Apple by calling for a block on the sale of iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPad 2 in two separate territories.
Two-pronged attack
The Wall Street Journal reports the Korean giant has filed for preliminary injunction against all three devices in the Tokyo District Court, as well as in the New South Wales Registry in Australia.
It follows a pledge by Samsung back in September to block the sale of new iPhone hardware in South Korea, and adds to potential iOS sales bans in both France and Italy.
"We are actively responding in (the legal battle) with Apple," Samsung spokesperson James Chung told the paper, referencing technology and user-interface patents in Japan and wireless telecommunications patents in Australia.
There's no guarantee Samsung's efforts in either region will be successful, of course.
Indeed, Apple itself had been seeking an additional sales block on Galaxy Tab in the US a move not granted in an initial ruling by US District Judge Lucy Koh, despite her agreement Samsung's tablet infringes on Apple's iPad patents.
