Flurry study reveals China is second only to US in terms of app activity
According to research conducted by Flurry, via its SDK integrated into 120,000 mobile games and apps, China has moved up the app session figures ranked by country; it's now second after the US.

What makes that fact more potent is that China began 2011 in tenth place.

Big share

At the beginning of the year, China had just 1.8 percent of the global market share in terms of the number of app sessions.

This had risen to 2.7 percent by April, and China overtook the UK in July with 5.4 percent.

China currently enjoys 7.3 percent of the market share, as shown in the graph below (from which the US is removed for clarity).

The US remains well in the lead, with 47 percent of the app session share, though that figure had fallen from the start of the year.

Estimates suggest that at the current trajectory China would overtake the US by the end of 2013.

Where next?

Flurry also highlighted China's growth in terms of downloads of new apps through its AppCircle promotion platform.

It says this activity is a reflection of geographic consumer demand.

China began the year with 1.2 percent of AppCircle downloads, jumping to 12 percent by October. The US meanwhile, still took the lion's share of the market with 57 percent.

It should be noted that, though there is certain evidence of growth in China, it appears that, in terms of paid downloads, it is still someway behind the US.

According to app store analysis from Distimo, in June, only 1 percent of Chinese downloads were paid.
