It's always been an oddity of the Korean market, that because of the way its government requires games to be age rated, there's never been a games category on the Apple App Store.
Basically, that's because when it launched in Korea in December 2009, there was so much content available, it would have taken years to retrospectively rate it.
The result was Apple-owning Koreans had to set up international iTunes accounts, or games were released in the Entertainment category.
Back for good
But no longer. The ban has now been lifted, though no reason was given, so publishers such as Korea-based Com2uS can now post their content on the countrys very own App Store.
Of course, the opportunity to gain chart position means that it's been quick to hold a sale with all of its paid titles reduced to 99c.
The promotion will last from November 2 through to November 6.
Waiting over
"We are very excited about the Korean Game category in the iTunes App Store because we can finally make our games accessible to Korean users," said Jiyoung Park, Com2uS' president.
"We have prepared this event so all, but especially Korean, users can easily access our titles at a lower price."
"We've been excited and anticipating the day when South Korea would be able to have its own iTunes App Store," added Don Lim, manager of Com2uS America.
"Korea has a history of strong gaming culture and to be able to use Apple's amazing App Store to distribute our games back home is what we have hoped for a long time."
