UK developer Pocketeers Limited has released a new open source game engine.
Dubbed IwGame Engine, it's already been used internally to develop the company's cOnnecticOns game, now available on the Android Market and expected to arrive on iOS, Samsung bada and Blackberry PlayBook in the near future.
Build on top of the Marmalade framework, the 2D engine also supports desktop and LG's connected TVs.
Engine-ious
Significantly, cOnnecticOns was developed for iOS, Android, Bada and PlayBook simultaneously in three days, with 90 percent of the work based on its XML-based mark-up language.
While still a work in progress project, Pocketeers says that IwGame Engine has been through 10 iterations, with future updates anticipated. The first will feature support for Facebook integration and conditional XOML actions.
Other updates are expected to include support for in-app purchasing, analytics, video playback, camera access and 3D gaming.
Eventually, it will submit the code to GitHub to gain wider community input.
