Budget Lumia targets young student audience

Nokia rolls out Lumia 610 in 8 Asian territories including China
Nokia's most affordable Windows Phone, the Lumia 610, has started rolling out in Asian territories.

The Lumia 610 will debut in the Philippines at the end of April, before becoming available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam in the following weeks.

Nokia has a young audience in its sights for the budget phone touting its social network-geared People Hub, Xbox Live access, catalogue of apps from Windows Phone Marketplace, and range of Microsoft Office features aimed at students.

Smartphone on a budget

"The Nokia Lumia 610 will introduce Windows Phone to a new generation of smartphone users, offering something very different to the monochromatic smartphones filling shelves today," said Nokia's head of smart devices Jo Harlow.

"PeopleHub, Nokia services and quality apps - coupled with a fast and friendly interface - will make for a great smartphone experience at a great price."

The Lumia 610, which isn't due to launch in Europe until later this year, will be available in black, cyan, magenta, and white when it goes on sale in Asia this month.

It will be priced at €189 (around $250) before applicable taxes and subsidies.
