Since the July 2012 launch of the Nexus 7, Google has had all the more more reason to improve the state of tablet apps for Android.
By publishing the Tablet App Quality Checklist, the company is hoping to do just that.
Said list sports a 10 item checklist of best practices that will help Android developers "ensure your app meets the expectations of tablet users."
Motivation generation
The checklist contains practical advice on how developers can best make use of the tablet form factor and hardware features, as well as guidance relating to icon design and the use of home screen widgets.
The document is freely available from the Android Developers website and is accompanied by links to support resources designed to help developers address the topics raised in each stage of the checklist.
Google also notes that it is "creating even more ways for great tablet apps to be featured in Google Play including a series of new app collections that highlight great apps specifically for tablet users."
Several reports have found that tablet owners are more engaged users and monetise better, but now, Android developers have an additional incentive to optimise their apps for tablets the promise of a featured spot on Google Play.
