With 40 million users now in tow following on from the platform's debut on Android, rumours suggest OpenFeint creator Aurora Feint may soon benefit from an injection of funds from a particularly hefty backer.
That's the claim being stoked by Business Insider, with the site saying it thinks Intel is looking to invest in a mobile focused firm, and Aurora Feint is the prime target.
Mobile motivation
Intel has been keen of late to pump funds into mobile based businesses, having previously acquired iPhone chipset manufacturer Infineon Wireless Solutions for $1.4 billion.
It's $7.7 billion purchase of McAfee, Business Insider believes, was also motivated by a thirst for a hand in the firm's mobile operations.
OpenFeint now appears to be attracting the giant's attention, with the website claiming the rep that informed them of the supposed investment in an as of yet unnamed mobile firm has represented Aurora Feint in the past.
The gaming network has already garnered the attention of some major mobile players, with Japanese social gaming specialist DeNA having taken a 20 percent stake in Aurora Feint in October 2009.
