Online learning service Train2Game has announced that it will collaborate with Microsoft in an effort to host the world's largest game jam.
The Microsoft and Train2Game Gameathon 2012 will see Train2Game students split into development teams and given 48 hours to create a Metro style game for Windows 8.
Microsoft employees will be on hand to lend their expertise to students, and a panel of games industry judges will choose a 'best of show' at the event's conclusion.

Furthermore, select projects from the Gameathon may become publicly available on the Windows Store which is set to launch on Windows 8 tablets and PCs in the coming months - after the event.
"We're teaming with Train2Game not only to set a world record, but also to support gaming development in the UK," said John Richards, senior director, Windows partners and developers at Microsoft.
"We're working with the students developing for Windows 8, as they are the future of the industry."
In order for the Gameathon to be considered a record-breaker, at least 301 Train2Game students will need to turn up when the event runs at the University of Bedfordshire from 14-16 September.

The record attempt will be adjudicated by on-site representatives from the Guiness Book of World Records.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to work with one of the most respected technology companies in the world," explained Train2Game course director Myra Smallman.
"Microsoft is a major player in the video games industry globally and being part of this relationship will be incredibly positive for Train2Game students when they look for employment in the future.
"The students taking part will also be world record holders, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
