Creating what it claims will be a mobile content powerhouse, the UK-based American Mobile Ventures (AMV) has acquired K2 Media for an undisclosed fee.
AMV is now planning to relaunch K2's Chilli Mobile consumer content portal with games, music, etc. and invest to make it the UK's best mobile content service.
The publisher has also confirmed it will retain K2's existing base in Cumbria, with all staff kept on board.
K2 to you
Key to the purchase appears to be the brands and mobile content K2 Media has to hand.
K2 has previously delivered music content for the likes of EA, as well as titles from media giants like Warner and EMI.
AMV believes it has to ability to bring the firm's licenses to a wider audience, with the publisher citing the previous work it has done with Google and InMobi to drive traffic towards its assets as a major factor.
"The acquisition of K2 Media provides AMV with a popular, established mainstream mobile brand and an authentic music publishing platform for mobile devices," said AMV chairman Jack Cresswell.
"This compliments our other platforms such as mobile TV and video-clip downloads, to offer our UK and global consumers the widest range of quality mobile entertainment content available today."
Musical matters
As a result of the deal, K2 founder Steve Kitchen has been named as the new MD of Chilli Mobile.
"K2 Media combined all of the best attributes of mobile media - dedicated content, focused brands, simplicity and convenience with a straightforward and trustworthy business model, which ensured consumers returned again and again, for all of their mobile content, added Kitchen.
By taking this philosophy forward and combining it with AMV's international penetration, Chilli Mobile promises to be one of the most valuable and trusted brands in the global mobile market."
