EA and GetJar honoured at 2012 Meffys Awards

Despite lack of dedicated mobile games award

EA and GetJar honoured at 2012 Meffys Awards
Last night, at a gala dinner in London's Park Lane Hotel, mobile trade organisation MEF unveiled the winners of its 2012 Meffys Awards.

And despite the absence of a dedicated mobile games category this year, the industry was fairly well represented. Of the 13 awards on offer, mobile gaming outfits walked away with two of them.

EA picked up the Social & Entertainment App Award for the iOS and Android versions of The Sims Freeplay, and GetJar won the Innovation Award for Monetisation for its GetJar Gold Virtual Currency.

Game-ish

Although not a game in itself, Crispin Porter & Bogusky was awarded the Brand on Mobile Award for its Just Dance 3 Autotune app – a simple video editor designed to promote Ubisoft's Just Dance games for consoles.

Similarly Barclays picked up the m-commerce Award for its Pingit app, which was partly designed by Whale Trail outfit ustwo.

"The 2012 Meffys once again has marked an amazing year of mobile success and innovation from across the globe," said MEF executive director Rimma Perelmuter.

"The diversity and quality of this year's entrants also reflect the changing nature of the mobile content and commerce ecosystem with banks, brands, developers, publishers and exciting new start-ups taking centre stage alongside established mobile players."
