Welcome to the weekly iPhone Quality Index (Qi) games round-up, giving you the LOWdown on the HIGH scorers every Friday on these hallowed pages.
As you may already know, Qi trawls the web for iPhone game reviews from the worlds most respected online and print sources.
Qi then applies its own magic formula to each site (such as 148Apps, Macworld, and AppVee) to establish a single definitive Qi score for each iPhone app and game.
Paws for thought
Barking its way into Qis critical kennel this week scurries Paladog!, a hybrid hero hound charged with protecting the peaceful inhabitants of a future Earth from the Soulless Legions of Evil. Woof!
Whilst accumulating resources and units with which to attack the enemy fortress, FazeCats multi-talented mutt has collared a trio of doggone brilliant reviews for an 8.6 Qi rating.
The depth in Paladog!s inspired fusion of real-time strategy and castle defence made Gamezebo stand up and take notice: There are a total of five different territories in the game (with 24 levels per territory), and each has a different theme that's reflected in the levels.
Up, up, and away
Cut from the same casual cookie factory as Tiny Wings and Angry Birds Rio, Elevate Entertainments Float challenges you to do one thing and one thing only: keep balloons in the air by whatever means necessary.
Spikes protruding from the bottom of the screen are, of course, your archnemesis, as you tap, bobble, and bump the assortment of inflatables in either standard Arcade, Timed, or Hardcore mode.
Floats tactile nature blew AppSpy away, elaborating that varied shapes react differently to your touch and interact beautifully with other balloons, squeaking as they rub up against each other. Bonus points are rewarded... for hitting them while theyre below an indicated threshold.
Lights out
EAs Fight Night franchise has been doing the rounds for donkeys years, entertaining boxing crowds on console, so the step up to iPhone division was long overdue for Mike Tyson and co.
With a series of nine knockout critiques under its heavyweight belt and an 8.0 score from the Qi judges, Fight Night Champion is primed to leave a lasting legacy, including some seriously sore knuckles.
You can get the up-to-date information about which games are reviewing best over at the Quality Index.
