Apple traditionally likes to hold its announcements until the beginning of September, and AppleInsider reports that this year the new iPod lineup will be revealed on 9th September.
It's looking like the big news will be a new iPod nano and an updated iPod touch. The latter is expected to include a camera centred on the back of the device, and if recent photos of a supposed stress-testing prototype are to be believed the small plastic cutout on the back also suggests the possibility of a GPS.
And if GPS is to be included, there is no reason to believe that a third generation iPod touch wouldn't also feature the digital compass introduced in iPhone 3GS.
It seems that news of the highly anticipated Apple Tablet isn't expected at this year's iPod showcase. The large form touchscreen device isn't expected to surface until the first quarter of 2010.
