There are lies, damn lies, statistics and market predictions.
Well, maybe thats being a little mean to market analysts who, no doubt, do their best to guess the unguessable future.
Still, we are slightly surprised by Pyramid Research's Q3 2009 Handset Forecasts on the US market.
It has Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG has the biggest providers of smartphones to the US market at present at 23 percent each, followed by RIMs BlackBerry at 16 percent, Motorola on 11 percent and Apple on 7 percent.
Fast forward to 2014 however and it thinks RIM will be the dominant force with 22 percent of all smartphones sold being BlackBerries, with Samsung on 19 percent, LG 18 percent, and Apple on 15 percent.
As well as breaking down the market in terms of company share, Pyramid Research also reckons that while smartphones currently only make up 31 percent of new handset sales (up from 15 percent in 2007), by 2014, 60 percent of new phones sold in the US will be smartphones.
Still, with RIM demonstrating some desire to make its devices better for high-end games - witness its recent support for OpenGL and in-app purchases, maybe by 2014 it will be a platform fit for gaming.
