Google took free mobile content to a whole new level at Mobile World Congress today by incentivising all attendees to their App Planet Android conference sessions with a brand new Nexus One mobile phone.
With nine or ten tracks and 150 seats per track that's up to 1500 free handsets. Multiply in the retail price of £500 and that's a cool £750,000 worth of hardware on offer.
Suffice to say, word soon got round and the ranks of the Android development community were substantially swelled... at least for an afternoon.
Suggestions that the company is considering a similar approach to its retail promotions remain at this point unconfirmed.
