Orange UK has announced it is to launch a new games distribution platform with entertainment retailer HMV; the two parties expanding on their existing relationship.
Due to launch next week, HMV mobile games, powered by Orange will be available on more than 1,000 handsets.
Those wishing to make use of the service will have to text 87010 before receiving a link to the site via SMS.
"Here customers can enjoy reviews and previews of the latest games, download demos for free and purchase their favourite games, as seen in HMV stores and online at hmv.com," Orange said in a statement, confirming that over 400 Java games will be available at launch.
Peaking partnership
"Orange is proud to be introducing this new service in strategic partnership with HMV, which will enable both parties to deliver greater value, products and services to our customers," said Orange's business development director, Stephen Harris.
It will also allow us to increase our reach in mobile gaming and build on our success as the number one mobile gaming operator in the UK."
Orange says games will be available from £1, new releases and premium titles costing between £3 and £5. Key games such as FIFA Manager 10, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Tetris and Pac-Man are already on board.
Harris added, "Our partnership with HMV is a key part of our strategy to grow and evolve our business, while giving consumers even more convenient ways to play games on their mobile phone."
The news follows an initial link-up between the two parties last year, 100 HMV outlets across the country selling Orange handsets from in-store concessions.
