The differences between the App Store on iPad and iPhone are becoming clear, with analytics firm Distimo claiming games are less popular on Apple's new device.
In a report focused on iPad's App Store, Distimo states that games are easily the largest category on the format, making up 833 titles or 35 percent - of the total 2,385 apps currently available.
Popularity contest
Things differ in terms of popularity, however. Distimo's statistics suggest 32 percent of the apps in the top overall category are games.
While this means the format's library of games are performing rather well in general, this actually represents a fall when compared to iPhone, where games total 56 percent of the top overall apps.
Instead, categories such as business, books, education, finance and productivity apps are much more popular on iPad than iPhone.
iPad also has a greater prevalence for paid apps, with free apps making up 17 percent of the format's library to the paid app's 83 percent.
Distimo's research claims this differs from iPhone, where free apps total 27 percent to paid app's 73 percent.
Perhaps as a result, games are also more expensive on iPad, Distimo placing the average price at around the $2.90 mark compared to iPhone's average price of just more than $2.00.
Top of the pops
When it comes to the highest paid iPad applications, four games make the run-down.
Firemint enjoys a dual assault with Real Racing HD at #5 and Flight Control HD at #10, Scrabble by EA charting at #7, and PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies HD coming in at #12.
The same chart for free apps contains just one game Illusion Labs' Labyrinth 2 HD Lite at #20.
